Theatrical Conventions

Magical

Suspenseful

The Unexpected

The Revelation

Theatrical conventions have to do with the engineering product's ties to the story and how that tie affects audience response during the actual performance. The goal is to make the engineering product so closely connected to the story that it seems to be a natural and sometimes necessary occurrence and at the same time evokes an emotional response. Theatrical conventions concerning the relationship between engineering and audience can be classified four ways: magical, suspenseful, the unexpected, and the revelation. Theatrical conventions closely relate to performance and style conventions.
